  • Perceptive received venture capital backing from the Dental Innovation Alliance in January 2025.

The following are among the recent acquisitions in the dental services and dental technologies industries:

  • Henry Schein completed the acquisition of a majority stake in Biotech Dental, a French company specializing in dental implants, clear aligners, and digital dental software.
  • Benco Dental acquired M&S Dental Supply and A-Dent Dental Equipment.

The U.S. dental services market was valued at $169.3 billion in 2024, projected to grow to $295.2 billion by 2032 with a compound annual growth rate of 7.2% during the forecast period. Several factors contribute to the expansion of this sector, including the aging population, increasing public awareness about dental health, a surge in dental cavities and gum diseases, advancements in dental technology, expansion of dental coverages via Medicare Advantage and dental wellness programs and a high demand for cosmetic and laser dentistry.

In the United States, there are roughly 200,000 dentists, with approximately 7,000 new dentists graduating from dental school each year. On average, dentists have 3,800 office visits per year.

  • Teeth Development: Teeth begin forming from tiny buds in the jawbone during fetal development, even before birth.
  • Enamel Strength: The enamel covering teeth is one of the hardest substances in the human body, even stronger than bone.
  • Enamel Thickness: Despite its strength, enamel is thinner than a sheet of paper yet provides exceptional protection.
  • Unique Dental Imprints: Just like fingerprints, no two people have the exact same dental imprint, making teeth uniquely identifiable.
  • Absorption of Stains: Teeth are covered in tiny pores that can absorb stains over time, highlighting the importance of oral hygiene.
  • No Self-Repair: Unlike other parts of the body, teeth cannot repair themselves once damaged, necessitating dental intervention.
  • Role of Saliva: Saliva plays a crucial role in oral health by neutralizing acids, washing away food particles, and helping to prevent tooth decay.
  • Impact of Oral Hygiene: Neglecting oral hygiene can lead to loss of bone mass in the jaw, underscoring the importance of regular dental care.
